Did you know that 32-year-old Susie Maroney from Australia is a world record holder of marathon swimming? She was the first person to swim from Manly, New South Wales to Darling Harbour and back again in seven hours in 1990. It was the same year when she broke the speed record for swimming in the English Channel.
Maroney was born with cerebral palsy where she initially kept her condition. Maroney started swimming since four years old and started competing when she was seven years old. She started long swimming at the age of 13. By the time she was 14 years old in 1989, she was recognized when she won third place in the Australian Marathon Swimming Championship for Women.
