Filipino-American in US Congress

Republican Steve Austria is the second Fil-American to serve in the US Congress. He is now a state senator from Beavercreek after beating Democratic candidate Sharen Neuhardt in the Nov. 2008 US elections garnering 59% of the vote against 41% from Neuhardt.

Austria’s parents was born from Tiaong, Quezon where his father used to be a physician who joined the guerrilla forces with American soldier fighting the Japanesse during World War II.

The first Filipino American to serve US congress was Robert Cortez Scott who currently serves Virginia’s 3rd District representative is on his eighth term now.
