Melbourne Cup – World’s Most Prestigious Horse Raising Cup

My son loves horse back riding and if we have a chance to visit places where there is available horse to ride, we will allow him to get a back ride. I just don’t know what is really in the horse that lots of people love it including me. That’s why one of my dreams is to have thoroughbred, a horse breed best known for horse racing and they are considered a “hot-blooded” horse, known for their agility, speed and spirit.

But did you know what yearly horse race event is one of the most popular spectator events that gathered horse racing enthusiast to over 110,000 people? This even set record crowd of 122,736 in 2003 dressed in traditional formal race day wear and others in all manner of exotic and amusing costumes, attending the race. Even Prince and Princess of Wales (Charles and Diana) attended this cup race meeting in 1985.

The Melbourne Cup Australia’s major annual thoroughbred horse race is billed as The race that stops a nation. It is the most prestigious “two-mile” handicap in the world. The event is held on the first Tuesday in November by the Victoria Racing Club, on the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne. This day was traditionally only a public holiday within Metropolitan Melbourne, but is now also observed as a holiday in the Australian Capital Territory.
