Michael Phelps – Swimming New Olympics Record

Beijing National Aquatics Center, more commonly known as the water cube, is the home of the Beijing Olympics swimming and other water events. Already, American swimmers dominated most of the swimming events.

American swimmer Michael Phelps got five for five in his quest to win a record eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics when he won the latest came in the 200-meter butterfly (1:52.03). As a member of the U.S. 4×200 meter freestyle relay team (6:58.56), Phelps already collected his tenth career gold medal – a new world record set as more Olympics medal won than any athlete in the history of the modern games and the most successful Olympian ever.

The 23-year-old Phelps exceeded the record and medals set by his fellow American Carl Lewis in track and field and Mark Spitz also in swimming, all with nine gold medals.

If Phelps will succeed in his quest to win a record eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics, he will also exceed the record set by Mark Spitz in Munic Olympics with seven gold medals in swimming.
