Worst Sea Tragedy - Titanic

Titanic is the worst maritime disaster in history with 1,500 passengers and crew perished in the depths of the Atlantic Ocean most of them died in hyperthermia because of the freezing waters.  The Titanic sank on its maiden voyage after hitting an iceberg, and made many stories out of it, making some of it into records.
Do you know that only two survivors are  alive now, but they never had the memory of the tragedy because they were so young when it happened. Barbara Joyce West Dainton of Truro, England, was 10 months old and Elizabeth Gladys “Millvina” Dean of Southampton, England, was 2 months old.
And the last survivor of Titanic  with actual memories of the sinking, already died but she shunned publicity and rarely spoke about the events. Selma, and another brother, Felix, who was 3, also survived the Titanic sinking in the early morning of April 15, 1912.
ASPLUND’S STORY WAS their family had boarded the ship in Southampton, England, as third-class passengers on their way back to Worcester from their ancestral homeland, Sweden, She said the family went to the Titanic’s upper deck after the ship struck the iceberg. I could see the icebergs for a great distance around .It was cold and the little ones were cuddling close to one another and trying to keep from under the feet of the many excited people. My little girl, Lillie, accompanied me, and my husband said ’Go ahead, we will get into one of the other boats. He smiled as he said it.” Selma Asplund died on the 52nd anniversary of the sinking in 1964 at age 91. Felix Asplund died on March 1, 1983, at age 73.
What a story of a great tragedy which was also the subject of a hit 1997 film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. The movie spent US$ 200 million for the production, and it was named as the highest-earning film in history which has earned more than 1.8 billion dollars worldwide since its 1997 release.
LONDON — A life jacket worn by a woman who survived the sinking of the Titanic in 1912 sold for 60,000 pounds (87,500 euros, 119,000 dollars) at auction in London. (more story on my next post)
But the world’s worst sea tragedy of all time, the sinking of MV Doña Paz in the Philippines on Dec. 20, 1987, remains as the worst tragedy ever at sea. It claimed more than 3,000 lives, most of whom were never recovered.  Philippine government agencies, however, reported a lower number of casualties 1,856 DEAD/13 MISSING , relying more on the manifest than on testimonies that M/V Doña Paz carried more than a thousand of unmanifested passengers, most of whom were children.
