This is one of the sources of billion dollar industries today.  People (full name People Weekly) is a weekly American magazine of celebrity and human interest stories, published by Time Inc.  As of 2006, it has a circulation of 3.75 million and revenue expected to top $1.5 billion.  

This is the reason why magazine publications can pay as much as US$4 million for a mere exclusivity of a certain photos. The past few years have seen an explosive rise in the prices paid for exclusive celebrity photos.

Forbes’  released their list of the 10 most expensive celebrity photos. They surveyed top-priced photos sales in the United States over the past 10 years. Since the entertainment magazines are notoriously tight-lipped about such sales.
