Motorcycle Accidents

accident1.jpgMotorcycle accidents in the Philippines have a massive increase in number, you will see almost every day in the news and basing this on the number of people who get hospitalized or even die because of motorcycle accident.

The leading causes of motorcycle accidents were the absence of safety equipment, overloading, speeding and reckless driving. The World Health Organization is considering deaths and injuries from motorcycle accidents as a “public health epidemic” in many countries in Asia, including in the Philippines.

I drive almost everyday in the busy streets of Manila and you will experience really how motorcycle drivers troop in the road. You will get irritated because if you are not alert you will easily hit motorcycle riders  that suddenly appear on either sides of you car.

They drive like they are the sole owners of the road. Sometimes motorcycles don’t have side mirror which is I know is a requirement before registering. Sometimes I also feel sad everytime I’d see children riding on their parents in motorcycle wearing no helmets.

I am not against motorcycles even though I was once a victim of motorcycle accident. For I was once hit by a motorcycle when I did some left turn and suddenly it appeared  on my left side despite his knowing my tail light signals that I am going to do some left turn.

Every one of us has a responsibility to discipline ourselves when we are on the road. Who will  blame who if someone’s life suffered loss? Motorcycles can be replaced but life cannot be.
